I am a recently retired elementary art teacher, and have written in many genres. My first big hit was a play I wrote in fifth grade called "Mrs. Longfellow's Tea." Needless to say, it was not performed on or off broadway. I went on to write short stories, poems, memoirs and a 250,000 word historical novel that is currently being edited, sliced and diced. I admire poetry in all forms, especially because it is succinct, often prophetic, and beautiful. I feel I have a lot to learn from poets and their work.
